Speed Up Your Computer With A Registry Change
In my last post, I talked about one way in which you can speed up computer performance by disabling the User Account Control warning messages found in Windows Vista and Windows XP. The change to the registry setting doesn’t speed up the processor in any way, but instead eliminates delays and interruptions. On the negative side, disabling the messages leaves you open to engaging in actions that are possibly dangerous to your computer.
Today, I have another registry change that will speed up your computer by eliminating a delay. Once again, I don’t advocate editing the registry if you’re a complete novice when it comes to using a computer. Editing the registry is highly effective at changing the behavior of your computer, but it makes the changes you ask for immediately, and there’s no way to “undo” what you’ve done short of restoring an unchanged copy of your registry.
3 Simple Tips To Make Your Computer Run Faster
PRLog (Press Release) – Nov 29, 2007 – Typical upgrades include installing more memory, purchasing a better motherboard or getting a better processor.
Software optimization, on the other hand, does not require purchasing anything; it only requires that you optimize and fine tune your software set up and installation to make your computer run faster. Here are a few ways to accomplish this type of optimization.
1. Uninstall unneeded applications – Over the course of your computer’s lifetime you may have installed a bevy of applications, many of which you do not need anymore. If this is the case, then now is the time to get rid of them. This will make your computer run faster, and more efficiently.
Preventing System Freezes at Instant Registry Fixes
How to Deal with System Freezes
System freezes are one of the most common problems that all Windows users have to deal with, at one time or another. A system freeze may occur at any time, whether or not you are actively working on your computer. They can occur when you are playing an audio or multimedia file, running a Norton antivirus scan, or just typing into your Word processor.
Most of the time, to recover from system freezes you need to press the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination. On Windows 95, 98, and ME systems, this gives you an option to reboot your system. On Windows NT, 2000, and XP systems pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination opens up the Task Manager window. If you are lucky enough, you can browse through the program list in Task Manager, select the program that is not responding, and click the End Task button to close that application. After this application has closed, your system is usually back to normal.

My Computer
So, here’s where I’m at:
Again, I would like to point out that these symptoms only happen with the My Computer window. Once I have drilled down deeper, everything is fine, but any attempt to access the My Computer window either initially or “backward” from a deeper window or even when restoring the My Computer window from the Task Bar will cause the delay.
I disconnected the system from the network and unplugged my HP All-In-One printer, which has card slots for photo cards. This had no impact on the response time of the My Computer window.

Speed Up Your Laptop
Tips For Speeding Up a Laptop
Laptop computers are generally slower overall than desktops, unless you spend thousands of dollars on the highest-performance “desktop replacements.” Portability is lovely but speed definitely matters, too. Here are some ways to speed up your laptop.
Replacing a standard 5400 rpm hard drive with a 33 percent faster 7200 rpm drive is probably the best investment you can make in a laptop. Disk read/write operations are the biggest bottleneck in all but the cheapest, underpowered laptops. Replacing a laptop’s hard drive is much easier than the same upgrade on a desktop machine. There’s usually just one screw to remove. Then you pull of the drive bay cover; pull out the hard drive; slip in the new one; format the new drive and install all your software and data. The restoration of programs and data is easier if you made a disk image copy before removing the old drive.
