Re-Work Procedure For: KD1700v,Orchestra Tuba2, Princeton Graphics Ultra17 Plus

1. Unpack monitor box, remove packing foam, and plastic bag. 2. Remove back cover and base. 3. Remove top and metal cover. 4. Remove bottom metal chassis and main board metal frame. 5. Pull out main board and disassemble main board from all the metal frames. 6. Change T401 (H. Drive Transformer) P/N KDS2036 to a KDS2036A. 7. Remove the black substrate HIC401,R444,Q413,R460 and BC401. 8. Change HIC402-PT1 to a PT1A. (use adapter board). 9. Add resistors C.F.R. 100K ohm* W on PCB pattern-side of R920. 10. Install 3 jumpers size 2 each 6.5″ and 1 each 8.5″. 11. Pin #2 of expansion board to R420/J464. 12. Pin #7 of expansion board to Q416/BC401. 13. Q413/collector (on mainboard) to T403/R416. 14. Replace R460 from 51 ohms 1/4w to 32 ohms 1/4w on pcb. 15. Mount the new expansion board in location HIC401. Make sure pin #1 is to Pin #1 (have option board component side facing component side. 16. Install R920 100K ohms 1/4w in parallel on the solder side. 17. Fix each jumper by jam-melt,so they do not move. (Make sure each jumper wire is clear of screws when it is installed) 18. Adjust VR901 to 26kv using a high voltage probe. 19. Adjust brightness and focus. 20. Re-Assemble monitor and mark with a blue dot on the product label near the serial number.

TIP: No video Solution: Check to see if ZD402 is installed, if not then add add a 1K ohm resister in it’s place.

TIP: Video Jitter Solution: Add a ferrite bead at J402 (use the same one removed from location BC401.

PS: Make sure the screws do not penetrate the jumper wire (pin #7) when attaching the back plate on thr pcb.

One of the problems with these monitors is that some svga video cards, when they change modes, put out a very fast rise time spike on the horzontal line and it kills the horizontal output transistor MJM16212. This can be stopped by opening the horizontal sync lead from the monitors video input db-15 connector and inserting a 3/8 ferrite bead in series with this line. This should stop this very fast rise time spike from destroying the horizontal output transistor.
