Computer Becomes Unusably Slow
On certain occasions, my computer will become unusably slow, where such actions as minimizing windows can take as long as two minutes or logging into Windows XP can take as long as ten minutes. It enters this state while browsing the internet, and remains in this state even after rebooting. The computer runs normally in safe mode during these problems, however, which is where I have been able to run tools to temporarily stop the problem. Some of the tools I have run to attempt to cure the problem include Spybot – Search & Destroy, fixwareout, and ccleaner. The problem typically seems to go away after running fixwareout, but not in every instance. When fixed, the computer will run fine for a few days to a week or so before the problem returns. I had this same problem several times about a year or so ago. It worked fine for 9 months in a row, then on New Year’s Eve the problem returned. It should be noted that the problem was not occurring when I ran the reporting tools this evening.
Thanks for your help. Andy
