postheadericon How to fix my slow computer?

First of all scan your computer with reliable antivirus software first – it might be slow because it’s infected. I recommend Avira AntiVir Personal and Malwarebytes. You can install them together. Both are free, both very good. I don’t like AVG because it slows down your computer (which you definitely don’t need)

Then here’s what you can do:

1. Uninstall software you never use via the Control Panel – Add/Remove Programs

2. Clean up junk files (e.g. temp files, browser cache). I know you’ve already done that, but do it again after uninstalling stuff. Besides you can clean up old System Restore points using the Windows Disk Cleanup tool. To do that click on the Advanced tab and click Clean up next to the old System Restore points. I know you’ve used CCleaner, but sometimes it misses stuff

3. Clean the registry

4. Sort through your startup items – there might be things like Windows Live messenger starting on every computer boot, which slows down the computer. You can always start that messenger manually

5. Defrag hard drives. I know you’ve already done that, but it’s good to defrag again after uninstalling software.

You can do all this manually or using a combination of free tools like CCleaner (which you know of), Revo uninstaller, Auslogics Disk Defrag etc. Also you could get an optimization suite like BoostSpeed, where you can do it all and more from one program. It also can optimize services and there are custom profiles to choose from, like Gaming profile. Always worth a try. Links below.
