Over time PC users install and uninstall programs and hardware. As you install programs and set it up to run on start up your PC will have take much longer to start. It is because the PC has to launch all programs set to run at startup. The more programs you run at startup the longer it takes the PC to boot completely. This one reason your PC runs slow.
The slow down of your PC is not a difficult problem to solve. You can do several things to improve its performance without having to pay a technicians fees.
There are several applications that you need to run at startup. Antivirus programs are some of the best examples of such applications. It needs to run at startup to protect your PC from harmful viruses. However this antivirus program can slow down the boot up process of your PC.
Several programs not needed at startup consume resources thus slowing down your boot up time. To check all the programs that start during boot up, click “Start” – “Run” and then type “msconfig” in the text box without the quotes. Click the startup tab and you will find all the programs that startup during the boot up process.
Uncheck all that you do not need at start up. Restart the PC to make your changes take effect. You will notice an increase in your boot up speed afterwards. Is your computer too slow after installing a game or program? If so this step may help fix it.
Fragmented files make it hard for the disk to retrieve needed data. It can be compared to a cluttered desktop. As you, the user, use file from the desk you tend not to return it back to where you got it. So the next time you look for the file you will have a longer time finding it. The same principle applies to your disk, as you add or remove files from your hard drive the more it gets fragmented. You can fix this problem by regularly running the disk defragmenter program built into windows.
One last reason and probably the cause of 90% of errors is something very few people even know about. What is it? It is called the registry. The windows registry is where all the settings and information for windows is stored and when errors occur your PC will grind to a halt and report mysterious errors. You can fix this by downloading a registry cleaner that will find the errors for you and get rid of them fast.
These simple steps can increase your PC’s performance without having to call a technician. Sending your PC for repair will cost you a lot of money and why pay when you can fix your PC yourself doing the same things as a technician will do.
