postheadericon PC Slow When Connected to the Netwo

Hi all,

I have a PC which runs really slow when connected to the network, slow programs menu, opening files and folders etc… Unplug the cable and it works fast again..

I have tried my collection of most common fixes for this problem but none have worked… Im at a complete loss, maybe someone here has an idea?

1. It could be a DNS issue as you have recently had a new server.

I’d compare TCP/IP settings. Start –> Run –> cmd –> ipconfig /all Then compare this with another working computer that doesn’t have these symptoms

2. Old Drive Mappings

Also make sure there aren’t any stale network drive mapping(s) that points to a location which no longer exist. It might be trying to scan it when opening files and takes time before it finally times out.

3. Old Printer

Go to printers and faxes and remove any old printers.

4. If none of the above resolve the issue could you please try this setting and see if that resolves the issue.

Open My computer>File Menu>Tools>Folder Options >View Uncheck the first checkbox which says “Automatically search for Network folders and printers”

5. Clear the Contents of the My Recent Documents Folder

To clear the My Recent Documents list, follow these steps:

Right-click Start and then click Properties. Or, if the Start menu is already displayed, right-click an empty area of the Start menu, and then click Properties. Click Customize. Click the Advanced tab. Under Recent documents, click Clear List, click OK, and then click OK. Your most recently used documents are removed from the My Recent Documents folder. Note that this action does not delete the documents from your hard disk.
