postheadericon Solved: Computer running extremely slow

Hey all,

I have a problem with this computer. It takes forever to do anything. It’s like it can only do one thing at a time its so slow. When I turn it on and log into my profile, it takes about 5 mins for it to load the desktop and about another 5 mins to load the antivirus software (Norton Security Suite 2010). The same goes for everything I do on this computer, it takes a while for the internet browser (IE 8 and FireFox), opening any program on this computer takes a while to load up. I have run Norton and it doesn’t come up with anything. I have done a system restore a couple of times but it doesn’t seem to help any.

Here are some specs for the computer:

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600 System Manufacturer Dell Computer Corporation System Model Dimension 2400 System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~2658 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Dell Computer Corporation A05, 12/2/2003 SMBIOS Version 2.3 Total Physical Memory 256.00 MB Available Physical Memory 36.10 MB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB Page File Space 688.49 MB

I would really appreciate any help I can get on this issue as I am computer friendly, but am far from knowing what to do at this point.

Thanks,
