Virus, Spyware, & Malware Removal Guides
AV Security Suite is a scareware and ransomware program from the same family as Antivirus Soft and AntiSpyware Soft. The developers of this program are distributing AV Security Suite through the use of hacked sites, spam, and Trojans that install it onto your computer without your permission. Once installed AV Security Suite will be configured to start automatically when your computer starts. Once started it will scan your computer and state that there are numerous infections, but will not let you remove any of them until you purchase the program. All of these scan results are fake and are only being shown to trick you into purchasing the program, which you should obviously not do.
If you are running older software, and not updating Windows, you may find that you will be able to remove this program, but then become infected again within a short period of time. This is because the malware developers are hacking legitimate sites or inserting malware ads that use vulnerabilities in common programs such as Adobe Reader, Flash, and Windows to install the malware onto your computer. If you do not update your programs to remove these security holes then the next time you visit a hacked site distributing this rogue, AV Security Suite will be installed on to your computer. A great tool that can be used to scan your computer for outdated and vulnerable programs is the free Secunia Online Software Inspector program. When you scan your computer with this program it will display a report showing all programs and Windows updates that should be installed in order to fix security holes and vulnerabilities. It is advised that all users scan their computer with this program in order to prevent your computer from being infected again after you clean it.

Tips to Speed Up Slow Computer
Tips to Speed Up a Slow Computer
You are here:Internet Family Fun Home > Internet Help > Speed Up Slow Computer
My computer has reached that magic 2 year old mark, where it starts to slow down and needs to rebooted very often. How I long for the days that this computer flew! Of course, I have had this problem before with other computers and it is mainly my fault. I don’t do simple maintenance on a regular basis. The only time I think of it is when the computer starts to slow down. I think most people put off computer maintenance also. Yesterday, I set out to make this computer speed up and I am happy to say that it worked and it really wasn’t that hard to do.

Computer security is a branch of computer technology known as information security as applied to computers and networks. The objective of computer security includes protection of information and property from theft, corruption, or natural disaster, while allowing the information and property to remain accessible and productive to its intended users. The term computer system security means the collective processes and mechanisms by which sensitive and valuable information and services are protected from publication, tampering or collapse by unauthorized activities or untrustworthy individuals and unplanned events respectively. The strategies and methodologies of computer security often differ from most other computer technologies because of its somewhat elusive objective of preventing unwanted computer behavior instead of enabling wanted computer behavior.

[edit] Enterprise Security Architecture
Evolution of technology, both in terms of hardware and software has complicated the data management scenario of Enterprise. Thus requiring a holistic, defensive, in depth approach. This approach incorporates: system, network, application, database, physical and logical security in terms of confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountablility and non-repudiation in terms of people, process and technology.

Computer Security & Viruses – Computer slow to respond Expert: Brian Benosky – 1/4/2008
Question QUESTION: For some time now my Internet Explorer has been slow and sometimes it goes blank and then sort of refreshes itself. This is vey annoying. When it does this it makes the windows sound assigned to “exclamation” in the sounds portion of control panel. I have never had any problems prior and keep my antivirus/spyware up to date. I use Zone Alarm antivirus/spyware/firewall as well as regularly scan with AVG anti-spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and AdAware 2000. I run Windows XP Pro. 75GB hard drive with about 2/3 of free space. I am not vey hardware savvy but can usually diagnose software problems but this has me stumped. Can you suggest anything? Is it just old?
: Upgrade, Repair, and Speed Up Your Computer: Susan…
I’m a computer teacher for 4-8th graders at a public school in New Jersey. In our computer lab we have 45 computers that are on average about 3-4 years old each. Many of the computers started to slow down because of the heavy use and programs that the students use on the computers on a daily basis.

IBM Locks Up a Deal to Buy Computer Security Firm BigFix
IBM (IBM) continues to gallop through acquisitions, especially in the software segment. So far this year, the company has purchased major companies like Cast Iron Systems, Sterling Commerce and Coremetrics.
And yes, this week IBM has made another key deal: the purchase of BigFix, a top player in the red-hot security market.
While the deal terms were not disclosed, the rumor is that the price tag for the privately held firm came to $400 million or so. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter, pending regulatory approval and the satisfaction of standard closing conditions. A Look at BigFix

Safe Hex
Safe Hex – A collection of suggestions intended to help you defend against viruses, worms, trojans (oh my!), malware and other questionable code.
- Install, use and update anti-virus software
- Keep your operating system and programs patched
- Consider using alternative web browser and email software
- Be cautious when reading email with attachments and downloading files
- File formats
- Configure your operating system properly
- Preserving your privacy
- Miscellaneous tips
- If you still get hit by a virus…
1. Install, use and update anti-virus software Anti-virus software will prove to be very helpful in defending your computer against malicious code – provided it’s used correctly. These are recommendations for you to get the most out of your anti-virus program:
- Choose a good anti-virus program. A list of anti-virus programs and their reviews is available here. This page also explains what to focus on when selecting an anti-virus solution and how to interpret test results. Also take a look at this page, which explains why you shouldn’t blindly follow the recommendations of your favorite PC magazine: Computer Magazines and Virus Testing.
- Keep it up-to-date. Anti-virus programs can only protect you from what they know about. Since new viruses surface every day, it’s very important for you to update your anti-virus program regularly.
- Use it! An unused anti-virus program is obviously useless. Use your anti-virus program to scan new files you just downloaded or to do routine scans. If you are not very knowledgeable about computers and viruses you may benefit from using the memory resident scanner. If, however, you know what you are doing, then you probably can live without it.
- Don’t rely on it. Modern anti-virus programs detect malicious code quite reliably but it is very important to remember that NO anti-virus program is perfect. No anti-virus program on Earth can compensate for imprudence or unsafe software. No anti-virus program will ever detect all viruses all the time.
- Use it intelligently. Some anti-virus programs offer some questionable features and gadgets. You shouldn’t use a feature just “because it’s there”. For example, AV scanner certification messages are essentially useless and only serve to advertise AV software.
2. Keep your operating system and programs patched You are strongly advised to apply all security-related patches for your software as they become available. Here is a list of some of the most “essential” patches. It is only a partial list:
- http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms99-032.mspx for Internet Explorer 4.0 and 5.0 as well as Outlook Express Take a look at the description of the Kak worm.
- http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-020.mspx for Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.01 and 5.5 as well as Outlook Express This is a security hole used by a large number of viruses, such as Klez
- http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS00-072.mspx for Windows 95, 98, 98 Second Edition and ME This security hole is exploited by Opaserv
