postheadericon Toshiba Satellite A305 series laptop computer Review: Powered by ConsumerGuide and HowStuffWorks

Toshiba’s Satellite A305 laptop computers are mainstream machines that are designed to handle light gaming and multimedia at an affordable price. We took a look at the S6834 iteration of the A305 line, which offers a fairly impressive set of components at a fairly low price point.

For starters, this A305 features a 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 processor and a robust 3GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory. The processor and memory combo on this laptop computer make it well suited for multitasking and even graphics and video editing. Since this laptop features integrated Intel graphics that share video memory with the main system RAM, however, this laptop computer won’t perform well as a gaming system. For that, you might want to look a little higher on the A305 ladder for a more expensive system with a discrete video memory option.

This computer’s storage — a 200GB 4,200rpm hard drive — is more than adequate for most users; it does spin slower than most mainstream drives, however, so you may notice some slowdown while reading and writing to the hard drive.

postheadericon IBM triples performance of World’s Fastest Computer and breaks the “Quadrillion” Barrier

The world of computing continually throws up feats that are difficult to comprehend. If the world’s fastest car or world’s tallest building were suddenly to be outperformed by a factor of three, we’d be incredulous, yet such quantum leaps have become routine in the world of computing. IBM’s new Blue Gene/P is the second generation of the world’s most powerful supercomputer. It triples the performance of its predecessor, Blue Gene/L while remaining the most energy-efficient and space-saving computing package ever built. Blue Gene/P scales to operate continuously at speeds exceeding one petaflop (one-quadrillion operations per second) and can be configured to reach speeds in excess of three petaflops. The system is 100,000 times more powerful than a home PC and can process more operations in one second than a stack of laptop computers 1.5 miles high (don’t try this at home folks).

The result is a machine that towers over other systems. It enables science and commercial supercomputing to attack vital problems in ways never before possible — modeling an entire human organ to determine drug interactions, for example. Drug researchers could run simulated clinical trials on 27 million patients in one afternoon using just a sliver of the machine’s full power.

IBM researcher Shawn Hall inspects a new Blue Gene/P supercomputer. The IBM system will be capable of up to three thousand trillion calculations per second.

postheadericon Running a Computer Repair Business

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Running a Computer Repair Business Last updated: 8/7/0 3

Q. What advice/comments do you have on repairing laptop computers?

A. I try to avoid them and have been burned quite a few times by attempting to work on them. One cannot usually work on laptops effectively without a very large supply of parts, extensive documentation, and experience. The parts are usually hard to identify and get, expensive, and difficult to return. The documentation is almost impossible to get. There are an “infinite” number of models and manufactures, and many manufacturers have gone under, and they keep changing. The cases have no rhyme or reason and are often hard to figure-out, and they are very fragile. They are difficult to take apart, put back together again, and avoid breaking or marring while doing it. You need a large shop (or depote–thats’ what I usually use if I can’t avoid them) in a large city that specializes in laptops, and you will usually pay to the nose for parts and labor. If it has a bad motherboard, chances are that it is beyond economical repair. Except for basic repairs and troubleshooting, the same is true for printers and monitors, although to a lesser extent, and they are now so cheap that in most cases they aren’t worth fixing if they are outside of warrantee. Them’s the facts as I see ‘em… Larry

postheadericon Laptop Running Slow? – Follow These Tips

If your laptop is running slow and applications are taking a long time to load here are some tips that may help you solve your problem. Laptop computers are not much different than desktop PCs. They both require maintenance to keep them preforming the way they should.

First of all of if this is a recent problem that started after you’ve installed or uninstalled a program. Use your restore feature and go back to a previous state when you know your computer ran good. You will also want to update your antivirus software and run a full scan, the same with your spyware software. Be sure to update the definitions on each program before you run your scans. You want to make sure your computer is free from any viruses or spyware as these will really slow your laptop down.

Unless you have a hardware problem like not enough memory or your hard drive is going bad. The biggest reason for laptops running slow is because of a corrupt registry. Especially if you are running Windows Vista. You may have found a lot of incompatible programs or software, and had to uninstall them. They leave behind invalid registry keys and orphaned entries. You need to clean these out.

postheadericon Laptop Computer

Relegated several years ago only to business use, laptop computers now have processing and storage capabilities close to that of desktop computers, and can easily be used for high-tech multimedia purposes (DVD drive, video games, 3D-image processing, etc.). If the price of a laptop computer is still higher than that of a desktop computer because of its mobility, its use is also more varied because of the fact that can be taken virtually anywhere.

However, given its reduced size, most of a laptop computer’s pieces are integrated and therefore cannot be changed. This is why users must choose their laptop’s characteristics once they are well-informed and have their planned use in mind. On the other hand, the fact that the manufacturer integrates the components allows for reduced risk of hardware incompatibilities (hardware conflicts).

postheadericon Speed Up Laptop – 3 Quick Steps to Speed Up My Laptop Computer

Are you wondering “why is my computer so slow Looking to speed up laptop computers overall performance? Well you have come to the right place. All computers and especially laptops slow down when they get a little wear and tear on them. Unfortunately instead of adjusting a few things, people believe they need to buy a new computer in order to increase laptop speed. This just isn’t true. You can actually speed up your laptop with these three quick steps. I will also recommend a program that can perform all three automatically for you. Speeding up your laptop was never this easy!

The first step is to run a disk defrag on your system. What a disk defragmenter does is increase the speed in which you can access information. Whenever your computer processes information it needs to jump from place to place and this takes time. Defragging your system allows your computer to stream information through one path. This will speed up laptop computers ability to access and run different programs.
